[Sponsored] For tea lovers anywhere, the name Ronnefeldt holds a connotation for being the producer of excellent quality, premium teas. Ronnefeldt is also one of the world’s oldest tea merchants, founded back in 1823, and now with a global distribution.

But here in Bangkok, Ronnefeldt has done something it has never done before. It made the world’s debut of a full-fledged tea lounge where anyone can come in, enjoy a premium tea, and simply have a great time along with a wide selection of delicious foods and homemade desserts. The 1823 Tea Lounge by Ronnefeldt at Gaysorn in Bangkok is the world’s one-and-only tea lounge serving a wide selection of Ronnefeldt’s premium teas and more.

The 1823 Tea Lounge by Ronnefeldt at Gaysorn Village in Bangkok’s Ratchaprasong area was launched in July 2015. And for such a monumental occasion, Ronnefeldt’s tea masters made two special tea blends exclusively for the Thai capital. The Gaysorn Blend combines the light and flowery Pai Mu Tan White Tea from Fujian with Thai ripe mango and citrus. The Gaysorn Blend is a delicate and elegant tea with subtle flowery flavours and smooth tannin.

The Bangkok Blend, meanwhile, infuses Oolong Tea with the distinctive flavours of natural pineapple and papaya, making this a flowery tea with refreshing tropical notes – reflecting the moods of Bangkok City.

Apart from those two exclusive blends, the 1823 Tea Lounge by Ronnefeldt is the place for tea enthusiasts. They offer over 70  teas, ranging from the Loose Leave Collection with classics like the White Yunnan Silver Tips, Tie Guan Yin, and Milky Oolong to and the Tea Star Collection that features premium Darjeeling and Assam teas. Also special in the house are the White Collection and the Tea Coutour with exquisite choices ranging from the delicate Green Dragon to Precious Earl Greyspiced full-bodied Assam Tea.

But then, there are also delicious homemade foods and desserts. While many fans already feel attached to 1823 Tea House by Ronnefeldt’s hearty and flaky scones and macarons, a lot more are coming here for their vibrant, tasty and beautiful dishes.

Set lunch, a la carte and dinner are a mixture of international, fusion, Thai and Asian inspired dishes. Teas – many of them – are incorporated to enhance the tastes. For example, Dragon Well (Zhejiang) tea, with its slightly smokey and vibrant bitterness, is hand-tossed with the above pomelo salad to add the depth of the flavours. The salmon on the side is also tea-smoked and gives a unique and aromatic taste. You must come to try to taste how this dish is. Delicious and very refreshing.

Still on the lighter side is their classic and among the most favourites Salad Nicoise (Bt290++) with a bright and crunchy combination of romaine lettuce, black olive, potato chunk, French beans and chunky tuna dressed with lemon and olive oil. For some, this can be a light yet hearty enough lunch staple. 😀

If you are into seafood and love the smooth tastes of cream and scallop, try the above ‘Seared Scallop’ (Bt480++). While you see the bed of truffled cauliflower mousse and garnish, you will taste the hidden caper vinaigrette that the chef carefully dabbed under each scallop to enhance the taste, along with a sprinkle of Kabusencha Tea – a type of Japanese green tea – to boost the umami taste of the sea.

For a leaner lunch, the Wild Caught Sea Bass (Bt420++) is a thick piece of fish served with a taste-contrasting pillow of corn and quinoa salad dressed with orange vinegar and a swipe of roasted onion puree. A straightforward-looking dish with a complex, delicious taste.

And then, here is the epitome of the 1823 Tea Lounge by Ronnefeldt – their famous Afternoon Tea Set. Pictured is for two at Bt1,370++ (or Bt750++ for one). The set features the tea house’s all-famous items from top to bottom trays. You might want to start with their sandwiches; this teahouse is super famous for their egg sandwich with truffle mayo. And then, munch your way up to their scones (served with clotted cream and homemade jam) and finish it off with their signature Duo Chocolate Mousse with Passion Fruit Jelly. A bubbly choice of a ‘Piccolo’ Moët & Chandon is available at just Bt960++ extra.

For tea enthusiasts, 1823 Tea Lounge by Ronnefeldt is mastered by a gold-class tea master certified by Ronnefeldt Khun Nalintorn Triwithayasin or Khun Karen whose Hong Kong Chinese background means she has been familiar with teas from her childhood. By having an in-house certified tea master, the 1823 Tea Lounge by Ronnefeldt makes sure your tea experiences at their tea lounge are always special.

Khun Karen regularly hosts tea workshops once or twice a month, with topics ranging from tea blending and tea cocktails to Chinese tea ceremony and much more. Follow their social media for news updates.
