Japanese-Centric Lunch Buffet at Hotel Nikko Bangkok

Above: The Oasis at the Hotel Nikko Bangkok on Thong Lor (Sukhumvit 55), walkable from BTS Thong Lor, is now offering a daily (excluding Sun) lunch buffet at Bt700++.

The Hotel Nikko Bangkok made its official debut on 13 February 2019 with a big bang. The hotel – as a part of the Nikko International – boasts Japanese core hospitality known as Omotenashi,’ a minimalist Japanese decor in all of its 300 plus rooms, and a Japanese-driven lunch buffet served in their all-day dining outlet – The Oasis.

The lunch buffet is open everyday (except Sundays) from noon to 14.30, with the food wide ranging – from many Japanese signatures to Thai favourites, a little bit of seafood, pasta and carving station. The highlights are the live Keisen Don (sushi rice) station freshly prepared per order.

Like most hotel buffet, the Oasis lunch spreads cover international favourites with some Japanse twists in certain areas. The pasta station, for example, while having the regular choices of Italian and Thai sauces, also features creamy squid ink spaghetti with shrimp roe. Nearby the pasta station are the noodle station and the carving station. The dishes rotate daily. The day we were there was roasted beef, tom yum noodle with choices of seafood, beef and pork. The tastes are awesome.

The warm pots contain more deliciousness. The veggie lasagna – very tasty – proved to be a big hit. Teriyaki chicken, beef with oyster sauce and lamb stew are all well done. These are served with steamed rice or fried rice with crab meat.

At the appetiser corner, we love yum tua plu or winged bean salad with creamy spicy sauce and seafood. Also, we love their pla seafood with strong aromas coming from young lemongrass thinly julienned and fresh mint leaves.

Small but good quality seafood is also impressive. Shrimps on the shell, cocktail shrimps, mussels and oysters are served with a good selection of dipping sauces – including the big hit of a Thai style super spicy or ‘saab‘ sauce with fresh chillies, garlic and lime.

For the desserts – that you’ll have to save an extra room for – are all very decadent. Hokkaido creameries served in soft crunchy cones, gelato selection, assorted cakes, fresh fruits are all there. Cheesecakes got a big nod from many diners. So, you must try it for yourself.

For me, I love very much their Thai dessert selection. There are also wobbling pancakes served with honey and freshly made crepes with sweet stuffing if you can manage to fit them all into your tummy. Just skip breakfast!
