Truffles with a view!
For those who are into the world of Italian truffles, the name Urbani might already sound very familiar. After all, this is the Italian family that has been sourcing, purveying and trading Italian truffles, black and white, since the year 1852 and now they have about 70% market share around the world.
So, it is an exciting news that despite being the exporter of truffles to the world with key cities being places like New York, Chicago, Moscow and São Paulo, Bangkok is the city that first welcomes Urbani’s debut restaurant and bar. Urbani Truffle Bar & Restaurant Bangkok is the first of many to come, and it is on 39F of Sathorn Square Building in Silom area. And below is the ambience and the views from the place. The place has been brought in by a veteran Italian restauranteur Mr Roberto Ugolini.
Being a truffle bar and restaurant means Urbani Bangkok features dishes heavily presenting their delicacy. More than 70% of their Italian dishes are sprinkled, added and prepared with their Italian truffles. While the black truffles are more common, the white truffles are only available on the season which will happen late in autumn all the way to early of each year.
The restaurant serves both a la carte and set menu. Dinner sets with truffles, amuse-bouche and a glass of Chandon are available at Bt3,900++ and Bt5,500++. Vegetarian set at Bt3,900++ and set lunch starting at Bt590++.
At their media dinner party, these are what we had:
Above: clockwise: fettuccini carbonara with truffle (sampling size from the cooking demonstration); amuse-bouche: yoghurt truffle sphere; first course: cold Lobster and truffle (served with Piper-Heidsieck Champagne); second course: tortellini truffle pate in consommé (served with Pinot Grigio, Delle Venezie); third course: pan-seared Halibut (served with Costa Di Giolia, Bologheri Bianco).
Above: fourth course: Australian beef tenderloin with wild mushroom (served with Dolgani de Nomiwazione, D.O.C.G), and the non-beef alternative of lobster, pumpkin pureed and crusted mushroom (so yummy).
Above: fifth course: meringue tiramisu (served with Veuve Clicquot, Brut). So so delicious. Below is the dessert at mis-en-plate. And the interior of this delicious dessert in the second picture below (scroll to the right).
Urbani’s headquarters is located in Perugia province, Italy, where new technologies and human work together to source and preserve truffles of Italy before distributing them to top-notch restaurants around the world. Below are some of their staple merchandise. Look out for the very delicious durian chips. Love Love :D.
Urbani Truffle Bar & Restaurant is a cosy place. Best time to visit is dinner. Get a drink and the views first just before the sunset. A lovely place.
